Best Outdoor Party Themes

Hosting an outdoor party is a great way to take advantage of the weather and enjoy your backyard or another beautiful outdoor space. If you are considering having an outdoor party, here are some fun themes that will be sure to result in fun memories with your guests.

Picnic
Host an adorable picnic luncheon in your backyard to celebrate spring and summer. It’s a great theme if you don’t have a ton of furniture because all you need for seating are a bunch of cute blankets. For food, set up a table full of things like finger sandwiches, fruit, and other darling appetizers, and stick with the theme by placing them in baskets. Be sure to include some rose or sparkling cider to go with it. To liven up your yard a bit, you can add balloons or other hanging decorations.

Game Day Barbecue
If you and your friends are sports nuts, set up your own game of football, basketball, or soccer in your backyard! You can easily set up goal posts and field markers with spray paint, and use lawn chairs to create some makeshift bleachers. Serve traditional game-day fare like burgers and hot dogs and pair with a beer or soda. Even if your guests aren’t playing, having a game gets everyone excited and involved in the action.

Roaring 20’s/Great Gatsby
If you want to host a more formal party, turn your backyard into Jay Gatsby’s mansion and encourage people to dress the part. Turn your space into a glittering open-air ballroom using tons of black and gold decorations, as well as hanging lights. Play some retro-inspired music in the background and use jewels and feathers to create unique decor pieces. Set up a bar for cocktail hour, and follow it up with dancing on the lawn.

Beach Day
Even if you don’t live anywhere near a beach, that doesn’t mean you can’t pretend to relax by the water for a day. If you do live close to a beach, see if you can rent an area out to throw a party. Set up some beach umbrellas, and if you are hanging out in your backyard, set up an inflatable pool or hot tub so everyone can get in the water. Decorate using seashells and sand to complete the theme, and serve some casual seafood and ice cream.

Cinco de Mayo
Take some inspiration from our neighbors to the south with a lively Mexican-themed bash. Decorate with brightly colored streamers and hanging flags, and be sure to have some sombreros and maracas around to set the scene. Of course, the centerpiece should be the food – think tacos, burritos, quesadillas, or whatever strikes your fancy, and be sure to top it off with some homemade margaritas. After your guests have enjoyed the food, be sure to put on some lively salsa music to get them dancing.

Tea Party
Host a classic sit-down tea party for your girlfriends by setting up an adorable dining table with elaborate place settings and flowers. Encourage your guests to dress up and decorate the backyard with hanging plants to give it that lush feel. For food, add some classic brunch fare to the menu, and offer tea as well as other brunch drinks for your guests to enjoy. If it’s hot outside, be sure to have some umbrellas or other shade options on hand.

Tropical
Enjoy the hot weather with a tropical party. Decorate with bright colors and flowers, and have leis on hand for guests to wear. Set up sprinklers to help beat the heat, and be sure to include lots of citrus flavors and fruity cocktails on the menu. If you have a pool, set up your party around water to keep your guests comfortable.
