Home Improvement Projects You Can Tackle In A Weekend

One of the reasons that many people shy away from home improvement is that it can be very time-consuming. With hectic schedules, it can be challenging to commit to taking on a project that requires lots of planning, effort, and in some cases, even money to complete. There are plenty of home improvement projects that you can do throughout a weekend or even a day. If you are looking to spruce up your home, consider taking on these projects.

Install new lighting.
Light adds a lot to your home and the way that it feels. When your home is dim or even has outdated lighting fixtures, it can make the place feel much more depressing and unfriendly. If you feel like your home is a little dark for your taste, you can brighten it up by changing your overhead lighting fixtures. Consider even installing a chandelier for some major style points. Don’t forget about the outside of your home either – having appealing and bright lighting fixtures on the outside of your house dresses it up and makes it much more lively.

Add a fresh coat of paint.
Paint that is peeling and dull can bring down the value and the appeal of your home. If you spend a weekend adding some color to the areas that need it the most can brighten it up and make your home feel more inviting. You should consider repainting your doors, which get a lot of wear and tear, as well as the walls in your hallways or rooms that may have seen a lot of damage over time. You can even switch things up to a fun new color to make everything more exciting.

Add some plants to your lawn.
If you feel like your front or back yard could use some TLC, there’s plenty of effortless ways to fix that. Head to a nearby garden store to find plants that you like and that work for your climate and your level of gardening knowledge. Then spend a day turning a sad patch of grass or dirt into a flowerbed, and instantly you have a brighter, more appealing lawn.

Change your knobs and fixtures.
Fixtures such as doorknobs, faucets, handles, etc. often get a lot of use and can quickly look worn down or dated. Changing them is very easy to do, and can add some style and appealing detail to your home. It is also reasonably easy to find unique and affordable fixtures at home stores, so you don’t need to spend tons of money on this project. You can even involve your whole family to find out what design fixtures they like best.

Touch up a piece of furniture.
When you love a piece of furniture, it’s likely to experience a more significant amount of wear and tear over time. However, you don’t have to run out and buy new pieces when your old ones start to wear down – you need to get creative. Refurbishing a piece of furniture is usually something you can do in just a day or two without spending a ton of money. For example, you could repaint or refinish an old desk or table, or you could even reupholster an old couch or chair if you are looking for a real challenge.

Although home improvements may seem intimidating at first, it doesn’t have to be. Even making changes that seem small makes a much more significant difference than you might think. Analyze the current state of your home and decide where it needs the most TLC.
