Patio Cover design 101
Alumawood Patio Cover Attachment options.
When designing your new Alumawood patio cover, always consider these three essential rules of law or rules of thumb.
1) Attachment height and location.
You have three ways to attach to your pergola/patio cover to your home.
First, option is a wall attachment depending on the height or clearance; a wall attachment is best.
Second is a fascia attachment; also, depending on your height and the size of your fascia, usually, the fascia needs to be a minimum of a 2″ x 8″ beam? A 1″ x 6″ fascia is not accepted through engineering and does not provide enough strength for an attachment. You can add a wood filled ledger over your existing fascia if need be.
Finally, the last option is a roof mount ledger; this option allows for more height underneath your patio cover. The roof mount option does have limitations of projections (Consult a patio cover professional if you are exceeding 14′ in projection for a possible redesign). You should try to use the same height as your ceiling inside your adjoining room, if possible. Sometimes even higher if reasonable but not to exceed 9′ 6″ is always a good recommendation.
